Well, the time has come to start teaching Gracie Leigh how to use the potty. We have been talking about it for several weeks now. We got her an Elmo Potty video that she started watching and got her two potty seats a few weeks ago (one for upstairs and one for downstairs). I waited until we had finished traveling for a little while to start. Yesterday, we went to Barnes and Noble and I let her pick out a potty book for downstairs and upstairs. She was so excited and took them to the check-out all by herself and walked out holding the bag like a big girl. Today while we were in Target I got her some M&M's and I explained that she couldn't have one unless she pee peed in the potty. She has never had an M&M before but was excited at the thought!:) Yesterday we practiced just sitting on the potty fully clothed. She kicked and screamed the first time because she was scared to sit on it. I am learning with my sweet baby that you can't talk her into anything- you just have to make her do it and she seems to get over her fear that way. I held her down (yes, I know mean mommy) the first time. After that she has had no fear and actually likes sitting on it now! So this morning we sat several times fully clothed and then after nap we tried without a diaper. She had no problem doing that. We ran to the grocery store and while in their she said she needed to pee pee. Well, I was like you have a diaper on just wait and we will go at home (note- she hasn't peed in the potty yet and only been on it once without a diaper). When we got home she reminded me again and went straight for it. Thinking she had already peed in her diaper I checked and it was dry. Right when I took it off to place her on the toilet she peed on the floor. Poor little thing had been holding it the whole time I guess. Well, we tried later and nothing. So, right before bed I asked her if she wanted to pee pee on the potty. She said yes (mind you she has had an eye on the M&M's all afternoon). Well, I placed her on and she pee peed in the potty for the first time!!! What a big girl!! I think I scared her when I started clapping and screaming for daddy to come in!!! She said, "now I get an M&M!":) She enjoyed that M&M and wanted to sit some more so she could get another one!:) I told her we would try again tomorrow! My baby girl is growing up and I am so proud of her!! Let's just hope she keeps it up!:)

Yay Gracie! That's wonderful! I did the same thing with SK, the first time she peed I clapped and yelled so loud that it made her cry! :) Love y'all! T
Pooh Bear you remind me so much of your Daddy! Your Gingy laughed through the whole story! I can't wait for Poppop to come home and read it too! He is going to laugh also! You will never cause what Gingy used to teach her children to use the potty! M & M's. Some things never change! Nothing like chocolate!

Good for her! Be prepared for milestones and set backs. The bribery wore off quickly for my Grace;) You're a mean ol mommy for not letting that child have an M&M till now...Sawyer has been eating chocolate since the womb!!
