Bye Bye Passy!!

Well the time finally came where we decided Gracie needed to give up her passy! She has had a passy since she was a couple of days old. This past year she had done so well and only had them when she took a nap or went to sleep at night. She always had two- one in her mouth and one in her hand. I think it was just a comfort thing. Well about a month ago one of her passy's broke which was a blessing in disguise because we had been talking about taking them away from her since her birthday in April. Going from two to one was not hard but of course I worried about taking it away completely.
Well, we took the plunge on Sat. night and went through with it. We had a Passy Party in celebration of Gracie being a "big" girl now and not needing her passy anymore. Daddy came up with the idea of giving it to the birds and we have been talking about that for months with her. So, on Sat. (in true party fashion) she chose to put on her party dress (it is an ice cream cone dress that she got at her birthday party and now associates it with a party:)). I baked cupcakes for her and she got to decorate them with sprinkles while sucking on her passy one last time. Then we took her out to the back yard and she put it on the bird feeder for the birds. We told her baby bird was going to come get it because he needed the passy and she didn't because she was a big girl. We came back inside and daddy made balloon "animals" or should I say random shapes and hats for her and us and she thought that was fabulous while I cooked dinner. We told her to check out the window every few minutes to see if the bird had come to get the passy. While she was distracted daddy went and got it so it would look like the birds came.
After supper we had cupcakes and then went to check the bird feeder. Sure enough it was gone!:) She handled it well but of course we had presents inside to finish out the party.:) She got a "big" girl nightgown and dress-up jewelry! She was so excited! She has really done great with the whole thing. She asks for it every night and that first night was hard and she did cry some but since then she will ask but she knows where it went. The other morning she did see a baby bird outside on the deck and she asked when he was going to bring her passy back.:) It was really sweet. So all in all my baby girl is showing me that she is growing up and it is happening way to fast! I am SO proud of her though and couldn't have asked for a more sweeter little girl! We love you Gracie Leigh!
